Narrated Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him):

He said, The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I have been commanded by Allah to fight against the people until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, and establish prayer and pay zakat. When they do so, their lives and property will be safe from me. But if someone commits a crime that is punishable by law, then that law will be applied to him. Then the reckoning and judgment of his unseen affairs (in the heart) is with Allah. [1] However, the phrase “but according to the law of Islam” is not mentioned in Sahih Muslim.
