Rape of minor students in madrasas by their teachers is not unknown in Bangladesh: Every year, young students, both boys and girls, die due to rape in Bangladesh. A new incident has been reported from Baufal upazila of Patuakhali district.
A minor student named Al Rafi (12) died at a hospital in Dhaka on Friday, August 25. Al Rafi is the son of Muhammad Rezaul Akon, a resident of Dalim village in Nazirpur union of the same district.
According to the report, Al Rafi was a student of “Madinatul Uloom Qawmia Hafiziya and Noorani KG. Madrasa”.
Recently, the girl fell seriously ill. Her family members took her to the Upazila Health Complex. After receiving primary treatment, the girl was referred to Dhaka. There, she was admitted to a private hospital. She has been undergoing treatment there since then.
The family of the madrasa's head, Maulana Selim Gazi, has been regularly raping Al Rafi, alleging that the boy has been raping her for the past year. The boy, out of fear, did not tell his parents.
Doctors said, "We got an anal infection due to the rape. The boy was in pain because of that infection. Also, the cancer spread through his body from that infection. We tried but could not save the boy."
The deceased's grandfather, Abdul Ali Akon, has filed a complaint with Bauful Police Station. The police have launched a raid. Maulana Selim Gazi has been absconding since his son's death.
