About 233 children were raped in the country in 2023. This information was revealed from the annual report of the National Human Rights Commission.
The annual report for 2023 was recently handed over to the President. The report mentions that this list was prepared from news reports from 16 newspapers.
The report said that the highest number of cases of violence against women was 335 last year. No cases were filed in 134 cases because these were domestic violence cases.
There were 201 cases of domestic violence against women. In the same year, there were 306 rapes, 294 cases of violence against women, and 168 cases of child abuse.
The report said that February 2023 was a terrible month for children. 35 children were raped that month. That is, an average of 1 child was raped every day. And 33 children were raped in March and 29 in April. 175 cases were filed in 233 cases of child rape. On the other hand, 105 cases were filed in 168 cases of child abuse. During the same period, 34 cases of murder and 6 cases of suicide occurred after rape.
The commission says that 6 people died in prison custody in 2023. However, no cases were filed in these incidents. Similarly, 5 people died in alleged gun battles, but no cases were filed. Last year, 62 workers died, 50 were reported missing, and 3 were reported missing.
The commission's report states that in 2023, the commission received 572 complaints of human rights violations. Out of which, 367 have been resolved, and 182 complaints are ongoing. At the same time, the number of suo motu (spontaneous) complaints is 112. Out of which, 50 have been resolved, 72 are ongoing. The National Human Rights Commission's report highlights various issues including the attack on the Chief Justice's residence, Palestine and Hero Alam. The commission said that out of the 572 complaints received, 110 were related to land grabbing, out of which 75 were resolved. In addition, 52 were related to jobs and salaries, out of which 35 were resolved.
